Besides failing miserably at blog design, not much else is going on. (Apologies to the readers who had seizures!) I went back to a black/gray/white color scheme because it seemed like the simplest option. After all, if you're a regular reader, you're not coming here for super cool backgrounds (hopefully). I would like an awesome logo, but I don't have enough skill to make one for myself. I'm offering a $25 ThinkGeek gift certificate to the reader who can come up with the coolest logo.* (I'm a huge fan of robots and zombies, so extra points if you include one or both of those elements!)
If you have suggestions for "Geek of the Week", "It Came From the $5 Bin", or really anything else, please comment. (Keep criticism somewhat constructive, please. If I suck, at least offer some advice on how to suck less.)

ReplyDeleteNot my intent, honest. I thought the "seizure" thing was funny. Maybe a bit harsh, but exaggeration is the root of comedy.
It was a good IDEA, robots are cool. Just the execution was a bit lacking. I know you want constructive criticism, but backgrounds are really tough to get right. The second that graphics and colors are added, text becomes unreadable and handfuls of Dilantin are consumed. It's like WarGames: "The only winning move is not to play."
It's good that you wanted to try something more exciting than dull, solid colors. It shows you care about your blog and making it look its best for your audience, but like you said, I'm not really coming here for awesome graphics. It's like the people who wear the "ironic" shirts from BustedTees and such to try to look cool: Forget about the wrapper, the packaging, and make sure that what's inside is quality. You've got that here.
Of course, in the end, this is YOUR blog and you could just tell me to go take a flying leap :D

Oh no! Don't feel like a jerk! It was one of those things that seemed like a good idea at 1:00 in the morning after consuming mass quantities of Dr. Pepper, but after I looked at it again, I knew it wasn't going to work. I was just so happy someone commented, because sometimes I feel like I'm talking to myself on here. Hopefully, I will get feedback (good and bad) and as I adjust things I can get more readers! I have noticed though, as soon as you ask for criticism, you get people who just say, "You're lame!" So, the "constructive" thing was just a preemptive strike against that. Thank you SO much for reading (and commenting) . . . you have no idea how much I appreciate it!
